XVI.HB - Telephone Headset Interface Box

Introduction

The BEAM XVI Headphone interface box is designed for use with the BEAM range of XVI terminals, however it can be used where ever a personal computer equipped with a sound card and optionally and external speech unit is used with a telephone.

Unit

The unit consists of a small grey box that sits beside the monitor on the users desk. It is connected to the computers sound card by means of a multi-way cable, to an external speech unit and to a telephone though its external headset connector. The unit has an internal speaker that can be switched on or off and connectors for an external ear piece and telephone headset with boom microphone.
The unit mixes the output from the telephone, the sound card and the external speech unit into the single loud speaker on the telephone headset. This enables the user to communicate with a person on the telephone while operating a computer via a speech interface.
